If you are anything like me and have your Instagram feed permanently filled with cake and baking posts, you will know that initial and number cakes are the latest trend (I think that’s the right think to call them).
I actually really like this style of baking because of the simplicity of it; naked sponge filled in with piped buttercream and then topped with lots of pretty goodies! This also means you have nowhere to hide with your sponge or icing so everything has to be clean and pristine.
This was the perfect opportunity (and she subtly tagged me in an Instagram post) to bake an Initial Cake for my friend Paige for her birthday. I kept it simple with a vanilla sponge, vanilla buttercream topped with raspberries and white chocolate buttons.
I definitely will be giving more of these a go in the future.
